Mubarak: My Ode to Ramadan

"Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life."
- Rumi -

A new spoken word piece in honor of the Holy Month of Ramadan:

"Mubarak"

Stomachs are emptied
Over a billion hearts filled
Fulfilled by soulfood
As this earth sits still
"Can you feel it now?" it whispers
Creation quietly awaits
The bittersweet taste
Of struggle and mercy

A journey, of devoted hearts
From castle tops to tarp
Covered tents
Intensified by blessed nights
Angelic armies sent
Deep twinkling skies
Backdrops for endless Signs
That call us to yield,
Let worldly glitter pass us by

To service our souls
Invest in inner maintenance
Where beings are nourished
Hearts polished - no longer tainted
Compassionate acts flourish
Moral compasses encourage
Sinful rust scrubbed from surfaces
Though we remain imperfect

Our mouths take in less
Dripping with poetic words
That burst from our chests
Feel rhythm rise up on our tongues
Songs sung
To the Divine
Our minds, absorbing knowledge
As we mine sacred space
Cultivating gratitude and change
Through His abundant Grace

Seeking natural resources
Makes us whole
Holy words
Moons full
Illuminate a brighter world
Where we consume less...
And are less consumed
By whispers that reside in hearts and rooms

They speak of riches and goods
Woulds and coulds
Have-nots and haves
Don't forget we're rich in love
That our selves are only halves
When we fail to quench spiritual thirst
And tread these vibrant paths
The ones that lead us from beyond the depths of darkness

"Do you feel it now?" the earth calls out
The All-Merciful beckons
So search for reflections
In the beauty that surrounds us
In the smile of the crescent moon
The dance of the Milky Way
We cleanse ourselves, empty ourselves
So we can finally satiate...

The deepest of voids,
With the Most Infinite Love.
